Perspective can be important in winter.

We all had a good laugh when a snowstorm missed New York and their sensible precautions looked overblown – CNN had a blizzardmobile driving around! Likewise, everyone has a healthy respect for Boston’s Day After Tomorrow-esque situation that has left the city coping with 102 inches of snow – with more coming.

Then there is Chicago, hearty as ever. Even if you took February’s record-making cold and snow accumulation in stride, this perspective from Italian astronaut Sam Cristoforetti might give you pause. She shared the photo on Twitter while serving onboard the International Space Station.

Here are a few more breathtaking photos Cristoforetti has shared lately. Notice how they look the opposite of cold and desolate.
